Ever lie down for a massage and realize you really don’t like the Asian melodies or the Gregorian chants going on in the background? Yeah, me either. I’m not that picky when it comes to spa-treatment music. If someone is rubbing me and I get to close my eyes and go to my happy place, I really don’t care what’s happening aurally (that is, I will speak up if my therapist talks too much — can’t stand a Chatty Cathy rubbing me down).
However, I’d be pleased if I were offered the opportunity to choose the type of music I get to listen to during a treatment, like you can now at The Spa at Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort and luxury beachfront property in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Prior to every treatment at this deluxe spa, guests receive complimentary foot baths (pictured at left). That’s when the therapist presents them with a Music & Incense Menu and discusses their options for customization during the massage.
The charming menu — charming in that words are strangely capitalized, hyphenation is awkward, line spacing not consistent, accents are wrong and translation a little funny — recommends different music for different treatments. For example, “Ancestral Music,” which “Awaken your emotions, that unites us to our ancestors, creating a feeling of tranquility,” would nicely complement Raindrop Aromatherapy, Balance Desert Stone Massage and a Deep Pore Cleansing Facial. Both Gregorian Chants and Celtic Music are recommended for Swedish Massage.
As far as incense goes, you can choose from scents that represent the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire Water (upon which many of the holistic treatments at the Spa at Las Ventanas are based). For instance, the Air element incense includes stimulating eucalyptus and lavender scents; Fire element features spicy cinnamon and patchouli.
